2016 Mustang GT350 Will Make Over 500 HP
Shelby Mustangs have always been legendary in any true Mustang enthusiasts mind and now finally Ford are building one that Carrol Shelby would be proud of on the new S550 sixth generation platform.
One thing we still don't know is when exactly when Ford will release this potent new Pony and how they will offer it for sale. Here is the latest info we have learned about the Mustang Shelby GT350 from various sources on the internet.
Ford have previously stated this will be its most powerful naturally aspirated engine ever. Mustang6G.com sat down for a Q&A recently with Ford's own Shelby brand manager Jim Owens and they are reporting that the new Shelby GT350 5.2 L powerplant will will produce over 520 horsepower—which means more than 100 horsepower per liter. The 5.2-liter V-8 will also spin to a dizzying 8,250 rpm with the special new flat-plane crank rumored to be inside the engine.
We have also heard that there will almost certainly be a track-only "GT350S" some where down the production line. Given the rumors we heard about the GT350R's spectacular performance at the Nürburgring—which put it on par with the Ferrari 458 Italia and the Type 997 Porsche 911 GT3 RS—the potential of a totally unhinged variant seems staggering. Think Cobra Jet but good through a chicane.
Obviously, none of this news is good for the Mustang's arch rival, the Camaro. Right now, all signs are suggesting the new Shelbys are going eat the Z/28's lunch—and follow it out to the parking lot after school.
The best answer we've seen about availability for either model is the beginning of 2015's fourth quarter. To date, Ford hasn't even confirmed whether it'll be sold as a 2015 or 16 model, and in that regard, Owens stuck to the script, stating "we haven’t divulged the model year yet and there is a reason for that."
Whatever those reasons are, we're sure the new Mustangs will be worth the wait.
