Dodge SRT Demon 170 Released

By now, most of you know that Dodge is planning to discontinue production of the V8 and setting their sites on an electrified highway.  But, before that happens, Dodge has been planning something big to end their legacy with internal combustion engines.

Enter the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170.

The supercharged 6.2-liter V8 makes a jaw dropping 1,025 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 945 pound-feet of torque at 4,200 rpm running on E85 fuel. Even on E10 gasoline, the output is still a mind numbing 900HP and 810 lb-ft.

According to Dodge boss Tim Kuniskis, on a propperly prepped track the Demon 170 hits a 0 to 60 time in 1.66 seconds and crosses the beams in a quarter mile at 8.91 traveling at 151.17mph, certified by the NHRA.

Of course, to achieve these staggering numbers, Dodge had to do some changes to the driveline but still uses an 8-speed automatic with the use of a trans-brake. This allows the driver to stand on the throttle and hold the shift paddle until ready to launch. The supercharger displacement has been increased from 2.7 to 3.0 liters as well throttle body getting a bump in size to 102mm. Boost is cranked up to 21.3psi. A smart engine management system makes the necessary adjustments based on percentage of ethanol in the gas, fueling, and even spark timing to optimize the powertrain output.

The Demon 170 will retail for $96,666 before the destination fee. Dodge plans to make 3,300 of them – 3,000 for the United States and 300 for Canada. However, the final number will depend on production capacity because the company will only make them from July to December 31, 2023.

Dodge will begin taking orders on March 27, 2023. To help deter markups, Dodge will prioritize orders that dealers make at MSRP.

If you are lucky enough to be a buyer, your Demon 170 also will include a Demon-styled decanter that includes coasters, whiskey cubes, rock glasses, Demon badge cover with illustration inside the decanter box. The owner's name and VIN will also be engraved into the box.  To that, we say bottoms up!
