The 2017 Camaro will once again have the 1LE package as an option, but this time around some further enhancements have been made. Not only that, but you can now get a 1LE V6 model, known as the LT 1LE. GM predicts many buyers will be swayed by the more lightweight and economical V6 model. The LT 1LE features Brembo front brakes, enhanced suspension and Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, increasing cornering grip enough to achieve .97G on the skidpad. Many of the suspension enhancements on the LT 1LE are borrowed from the SS model including dampers, rear cradle mounts, rear toe links and sway bars. It even has the Camaro SS fuel system, chosen for its improved capability in high load cornering.
The new LT 1LE is under 3,500 pounds and has an excellent front to rear weight balance. Combined with its peppy 335 horsepower V6, this car is sure to impress. GM claims it outperforms all others in its class.
Enhancements for the 2017 Camaro SS 1LE include an all new suspension package (labeled FE4), magnetic ride control and a trick electronic differential. It even has bigger front brakes than the normal SS model featuring 14.6” rotors with Brembo 6-piston calipers. Also standard in this model are Recaro seats and the new Performance Data Recorder. The SS 1LE is capable of serious cornering grip, coming in at over 1G on the skidpad.
The impressive 6.2L LT1 returns for 2017, producing a whopping 455 horsepower in the SS 1LE. Combined with all of the other enhancements, the new model is significantly more capable on a road course. Track testing at Willow Springs has shown the 1LE SS turning lap times roughly 3 seconds faster than the regular SS model. Incidentally they mentioned that the LT 1LE delivers lap times comparable to the previous year SS model.
