2005-2012 Charger/Challenger BBK Power Plus Throttle Bodies

Back in the late 80’s most of the enthusiasts modifying the popular EFI cars of the time were taking off the EFI and converting those engines to carburetion. Back then most people felt that there was no way to improve power output on EFI engines and that they were just too complicated. The BBK Performance throttle body has proven to be one of the most popular upgrades for the 2005-2012 Charger, Challenger and 300C. It fits all three engines that come in that generation of Dodge muscle cars, namely the 5.7, 6.1 and 6.4 liter Hemi. Brothers Performance has sold and installed hundreds of these over the years and they continue to be one of the first mods enthusiasts select for their Hemi upgrade. Their popularity is largely due to their budget-friendly price, extremely simple installation and dyno-proven results. Click Here to download the easy to follow instructions.  It’s compatible with the factory air intake also, but to get the maximum increase in airflow it’s a good idea to pair it with a Hemi cold air intake. The only thing you need to do after installation is perform the simple throttle pedal relearn procedure outlined below. This should be done anytime the throttle body is changed on these cars, even when replacing with a factory unit.

After installation is complete, you’ll just need to perform these 4 simple steps to complete the relearn procedure.
1. Disconnect battery for 5 minutes. Reconnect. (or use a code reader to clear any stored codes in the computer)
NOTE: If this is a new install, proceed to step 2.
2. Turn ignition key to on position, do not start the engine.
3. Slowly depress the gas pedal to the floor, and then slowly release it. Do this three (3) times. Turn the key off.
4. Now start engine. The gas pedal is now in synch with the larger throttle body.
BBK offers their Hemi throttle body in 2 sizes to help match up to everything from a minor bolt-on setup to a full-on high boost supercharged or turbo build. The BBK 85mm Hemi throttle body (#1781) is a great choice for engines that are otherwise stock or where basic upgrades will be made, such as a cold air intake, headers, etc. The BBK 90mm Hemi throttle body (#1782) is a better choice for either supercharged or max-effort, high RPM naturally aspirated applications, particularly where they will be accompanied by a custom tune to take advantage of all that increased airflow.

On that note, it’s important to point out that for the vast majority of applications the BBK hemi throttle body will not require custom tuning. This means that most often it’s a true bolt-on and go installation however, due to the wide range of OEM calibrations Dodge uses, it’s possible that custom tuning will be required for either model (85mm or 90mm). That 5 or 10mm increase in size from stock may not sound like a lot but can amount to a major increase in airflow.  It’s sometimes necessary to change some parameters in the ECM to make everything play nicely together. It’s always a good idea to consider custom tuning for any build on these cars to ensure optimum power delivery and driveability.

Overall this is one of the easiest ways to increase airflow to your engine, resulting in better throttle response and improved horsepower and torque output.
