The BBK 2012-2018 Focus ST Throttle Body is dyno proven to make gains in power output and will significantly improve throttle response. This first-of-its-kind throttle body is not simply a ported factory unit, but a completely new casting with a significantly larger inside diameter. The BBK Focus ST throttle body is a great upgrade at any stage of modification, from mild bolt-on street cars to large turbo race cars.
It’s pretty common knowledge that the easiest way to extract more power from your Focus ST's engine is to make it easier to get air in. By reducing intake restriction, the BBK 62mm Throttle Body makes it easier for the engine to draw in more air. The increase of air that results from this means more air in the combustion chamber, and therefore more power. Not only that, but it provides a significant improvement in throttle response and reduced turbo lag.
The factory throttle body on your EcoBoost 2.0L is 57mm, so the BBK throttle body is 5mm larger. That’s nearly 10% more area. That may not sound like a lot but that’s a huge increase when it comes to throttle body size. BBK went with the largest size that will work with the factory intake manifold to ensure the most increase in performance.
As with most modifications, horsepower gains vary but BBK’s well-documented dyno testing shows that gains of 8 to 12 rear wheel horsepower are typical on a stock or mildly built Focus ST. A highly modified car might make even more power. This is a serious gain, especially for such an affordable and easy-to-install upgrade. For best results you should also use a Focus ST cold air intake, but it's not required.
So we know the BBK Focus ST throttle body makes power, but what about quality? Like all BBK products, the 62mm Focus ST throttle body is made in the USA. They start as a high quality 356 aluminum casting that is then CNC machined for a perfect fit on your Focus. Each part is designed, assembled and tested in BBK’s facility in Southern California. Speaking of California, these throttle bodies are pending CARB approval, so they are all not yet street legal in California or other areas that have adopted California emissions restrictions.
Installation couldn’t be simpler and can typically be done in about an hour. Essentially you just need to remove your intake tube and factory throttle body. From there you repeat the process in reverse order using the supplied hardware. No special tools are required, just a few metric sockets and a T30 torx bit.
